AI-powered transcription and translation are set to revolutionize the audiovisual (AV) industry with the arrival of Gladia, a startup focused on real-time audio intelligence. Gladia recently raised $16 million in Series A funding, which will allow the company to further develop its AI-powered transcription and analytics engine, designed to support over 100 languages and accents in real time.
Gladia’s founder, Jean-Louis Quéguiner, created the company in response to the frustrations of using traditional transcription services that struggled with multilingual environments and accents. For AV end users, especially in global business or education settings, this real-time transcription technology will enable seamless communication across borders, breaking down language barriers during meetings and events.
What makes Gladia stand out is its ability to provide instant insights during conversations, such as sentiment analysis, key takeaways, and conversation summaries. This real-time feedback will be invaluable for improving communication and decision-making during meetings or presentations. The system can deliver transcription and insights within 300 milliseconds, offering accuracy regardless of language or accent—a feature especially useful for diverse AV installations.
Since launching in 2023, Gladia’s transcription and audio intelligence API has gained traction among businesses, especially those using meeting recording tools or note-taking solutions. More than 600 companies are already using Gladia, including popular platforms like Attention, Circleback, and VEED.IO.
Looking ahead, Gladia plans to expand its offerings to include AI toolkits and customizable models, which could be useful for AV professionals looking to enhance their systems with real-time transcription, analytics, and even large language models (LLMs). The company’s AI engine is currently being tested in contact centers to assist agents during calls, showing the technology’s potential across different industries.
As Gladia continues to grow and refine its solutions, there’s a strong chance that major players like Zoom, Microsoft or Legrand will take notice and possibly acquire the company within the next year.
