Hawaii Pacific University Enhances Esports Arena with Advanced AV Technology

Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) has transformed its Esports Arena at the Aloha Tower Marketplace with the integration of Extron’s XTP system, creating a high-performance audiovisual environment for competitive gaming. The centerpiece of the upgrade is an Extron XTP II CrossPoint matrix switcher, enabling real-time delivery of gaming content, player stats, and multimedia across professional-grade displays throughout the arena.

The XTP system supports seamless gameplay with rapid content switching and signal integrity, elevating the experience for players and spectators. The installation positions HPU as a leader in esports technology innovation.

“Our esports arena brings students and the public together in a balance between social interaction and tech, resulting in a synergy that builds community in new and exciting ways,” says Jordan Oliver, Director of Esports Computing Services, Information Technology Services, at HPU. With products like Extron’s XTP, we can plug into things that are happening right now and still grow the environment with advancements in technology.”

The arena features 30 gaming stations, nine 4K displays ranging from 55 to 65 inches, and two commercial-grade projection systems. Additional rooms serve as overflow spaces and can display tournament content routed through the XTP system.

At the core of the AV setup, the XTP II CrossPoint matrix switcher’s 50 Gbps digital backplane ensures instantaneous, lag-free video switching at resolutions up to 4K/60. The modular design supports future expansion, allowing the system to scale with the arena’s needs. XTP transmitters and receivers extend signals throughout the facility, ensuring glitch-free visuals during high-stakes competitions.

Player-athletes have embraced the enhanced arena, praising its cutting-edge displays and fast, reliable video performance. The system has also earned high marks from HPU’s administration, with plans to continue expanding the facility’s capabilities.
