Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) in Southern California, one of the largest community colleges on the West Coast, upgraded its Hilmer Lodge Stadium with a new 60,000-square-foot sports complex. The AV system was designed to support football, track and field, and cross-country athletics while also integrating technology into learning, meeting, and training spaces throughout the facility.

The AV upgrades extend beyond the stadium to include a new box office, an expanded concession area with digital menus, broadcast and press booths, VIP rooms, weight training and fitness centers, a kinesiology instructional room, active learning spaces, offices, meeting rooms, and a complex-wide digital signage system. An Extron XTP system serves as the AV distribution backbone, including content delivery to the stadium’s massive 85′ x 37′ LED scoreboard and videowall.
“Extron’s hardware and software products provide the flexibility, reliability, and power we require for our stadium complex,” says Chris Rodriguez, CTS, ECP, EAP, Assistant Director, Audiovisual Services at Mt. San Antonio College. “Their equipment and support are the best in the industry.”

Four XTP II CrossPoint modular matrix switchers manage AV distribution, using combinations of XTP CP input and output boards to facilitate local and remote signal extension of HDMI, 12G-SDI, and audio signals, along with RS-232 control insertion. The HDMI I/O boards support 4K/60 signals and stereo audio, while the 12G-SDI boards enable SDI content transmission.
In the tech booth, an Extron XTP II CrossPoint matrix switcher supports AV distribution for the stadium’s videowall, digital signage, and indoor and outdoor event spaces. Two inputs connect to the videowall processor, allowing operators to route multiple camera feeds and content sources using Extron TouchLink Pro touchpanels, which are managed through an Extron IP Link Pro control processor.

The Extron AV system helped bring the stadium up to today’s standards for sports training and competition while delivering top-tier broadcasting capabilities to Mt. SAC’s historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
