A group of major AV manufacturers and technology providers has launched OpenAV Cloud, a new industry initiative aimed at promoting open APIs, cloud integration and cross-brand collaboration. Founding members include Sony Electronics, Panasonic, Legrand, Shure, BrightSign and Xyte.
The coalition says OpenAV Cloud is designed to address persistent integration challenges in AV systems, particularly the limitations of proprietary technologies. The initiative supports the development of open, cloud-based APIs and shared frameworks to facilitate secure data access and interoperability across products and brands.
“Customers today expect their technology to work together seamlessly, regardless of the brand,” said Sam Sabet, CTO at Shure. “OpenAV Cloud is about collaborating to create AV solutions that are interoperable, efficient and built for the future, ensuring we deliver top performance for our shared customers.”
Rich Ventura, vice president of professional display solutions at Sony Electronics, added that the group’s goal is to promote flexible, accessible solutions that meet the evolving needs of integrators and end users. “We’re proudly committed to working together with other industry leaders, allowing us to jointly provide our community with a frictionless and collaborative way to streamline integrations,” he said.
OpenAV Cloud members have committed to several guiding principles:
- Meeting customer demand for flexible, interoperable solutions
- Building and maintaining open, read-write cloud APIs
- Collaborating on industry-wide standards and best practices
- Upholding secure, customer-controlled data access
- Promoting inclusive, cross-brand collaboration
Pamela Hoppel, president of Legrand | AV, said the initiative marks a shift toward a more connected and customer-focused AV landscape. “With OpenAV Cloud, we’re taking a collective step toward a more connected and
customer-centric industry. By working together on shared standards and open APIs, we can unlock greater innovation and value for the AV ecosystem.”
Membership in OpenAV Cloud is free, and the group is inviting AV manufacturers, integrators and managed service providers to join. OpenAV Cloud will officially debut during a special online event on May 21st 2025.
