Fifteen Vivitek projectors were used in the Pompei Continuum, a large-scale artistic exhibition created to support Pompeii’s candidacy for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2026.
Held from December 2024 through January 2025, the temporary exhibition drew more than 20,000 visitors with immersive visuals that highlighted the art, history and culture of the ancient city. Italian AV integrator PlayArtMultimedia handled the technical design and installation of the projection systems.
The project used three city squares as projection canvases, with content mapped directly onto ancient structures. The visuals included ecclesiastical works, sketches and paintings that showcased the heritage of Pompeii in high resolution. All imagery was delivered using Vivitek projectors designed for large-venue applications.

The lineup included eight DU9900Z units, one DU9057Z, three DU9800Z projectors and three DU8395Z models. Vivitek’s DU9000 Series features single-chip DLP laser projection designed for large-venue environments. The DU8395Z, also a large-venue laser projector, offers up to 15,000 lumens of consistent light output, as well as picture-in-picture support and image quality suited to projection mapping and nontraditional surfaces.
PlayArtMultimedia selected the Vivitek systems for their brightness, image clarity, energy efficiency and ease of setup. The team used a range of lenses—spanning from 0.8–1.2 wide-angle to 4.0–7.0 long-throw options—to accommodate varying projection distances. Technicians noted the Vivitek lenses were lightweight and easy to mount, which helped streamline deployment across the large exhibition footprint.
