Behind the Scenes at TED 2025: Clear-Com and NETGEAR Keep the Show Connected

Clear-Com and NETGEAR played a critical role in keeping TED2025 running smoothly with a communications backbone that supported multiple stages, breakout rooms, and live sessions at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

The production team relied on Clear-Com’s Eclipse Delta Frame intercom system, FreeSpeak II wireless beltpacks, and Dante audio distribution, all connected through NETGEAR AV Line M4250 switches. The setup gave engineers, camera crews, and managers instant, reliable communication across the event.

Clear-Com’s system allowed teams to coordinate live program shifts and stage transitions without interruption. Wireless transceivers deployed throughout the venue extended coverage to every production area, ensuring crews stayed connected.

“The comms engineer was impressed by how quickly I could bring the NETGEAR switches online with pre-built AES67 profiles and auto-trunking features,” said Sarah Koehler, applications engineer at Clear-Com.

The system’s reliability was equally important. Four NETGEAR switches carried intercom and audio traffic throughout the week-long event with no downtime.

“With so many simultaneous sessions and live program shifts, we needed total confidence in our communications,” said Simon Baldwin, line producer and video records engineer for TED2025.  “With the power of Eclipse and FreeSpeak combined, we had flawless audio quality and the flexibility to adapt on the fly, exactly what an event of this scale demands.”

Bob Boster, president of Clear-Com, said the collaboration was a natural fit for TED’s high-profile production. “TED is all about exploring the future of human potential, and we’re proud to support that mission by empowering the behind-the-scenes teams with communication tools they can trust. Partnering with NETGEAR allowed us to deliver a world-class, integrated solution that exceeded the technical needs of this extraordinary event.”
