Sennheiser has released a firmware update for its Profile Wireless microphone system that adds Bluetooth connectivity, allowing the clip-on microphone to connect directly to smartphones, tablets and laptops.
The update, version 5.0.0, enables pairing via Bluetooth LE Audio or Bluetooth Classic, depending on device compatibility. Sennheiser said the feature allows users to bypass the receiver and connect the microphone directly to mobile devices.
“The free firmware update unlocks new possibilities, enabling creators to eliminate the receiver between the Profile Wireless clip-on mic and their mobile phone. This clears the smartphone connector for other usage and makes the set-up as compact as possible,” says product manager Hendrik Millauer.
By removing the need for a receiver, the update creates a more compact recording setup and frees up device ports for other uses.
Sennheiser said the system can still be used with an external lavalier microphone, which automatically disables the built-in mic when connected.
The company noted that the receiver remains the best option for the highest audio quality, while Bluetooth connections offer broader compatibility and flexibility.
The firmware update is available now through the Profile Wireless product page.
