University of Tennessee at Martin Builds Esports Space With Extron AV Technology

The University of Tennessee at Martin has transformed a former campus computer store into a new esports space designed to support both casual gaming and competitive esports activities.

To support the project’s budget and space requirements, the university implemented an Extron-based AV system that routes gameplay and other content to displays throughout the room while supporting streaming and room control functions.

“This room is just the beginning,” said Jace Williams, AV System Administrator at the university. “We are starting with an esports club with hopes to someday soon grow it into an esports team. The interest is already here and it’s an exciting time to be a part of this growing program.”

At the center of the installation is an Extron DTP CrossPoint 108 4K presentation matrix switcher, which routes signals from gaming PCs, consoles and streaming sources to displays throughout the space.

The system also includes an Extron TLP Pro 1220TG TouchLink Pro touchpanel for AV control and a DTP2 R 211 receiver with audio de-embedding capabilities.

According to Extron, the university also plans to add an MGP 641 xi Multi-Window Processor as the esports program expands.

The project was designed to provide a flexible foundation for current gaming activities while supporting future growth of the university’s esports initiatives.
