Alfalite has completed a virtual production XR studio at the ITS Apulia Foundation’s Apulia Digital Lab in Bari, Italy. The studio features Alfalite’s VP XR solutions, designed for high-performance extended reality environments.
The project was integrated by Broadcast Digital Service (BDS), Alfalite’s local partner, which managed the supply and commissioning of all systems.
Located at the Fiera del Levante, the new studio is part of the Apulia Digital Lab and is among the most advanced digital production environments in Southern Europe. It offers students, creators, and AV professionals a full XR stage equipped with modern virtual production technologies and supports regional efforts to drive innovation in entertainment, cultural industries, and ICT.

At the heart of the Virtual Studio Production (VSP) lab is a 48-square-meter curved LED wall built with Alfalite Modularpix Pro 1.9 ORIM VP XR panels, along with a 10-square-meter ceiling made of ModularPix Pro 3.9 HB panels for immersive lighting and reflections. The system is integrated with a RED camera, a Mo-Sys camera tracking system, MOVELLA motion capture, Unreal Engine 5 for real-time rendering, and a full broadcast and lighting setup. The result is a flexible platform for XR, VFX, and virtual set production.
Alfalite’s Modularpix Pro panels include ORIM (Optical Resin Injection Module) technology, which improves module alignment, thermal dissipation, and resistance to impacts, liquids, chemicals, and fire. The panels are also easier to clean and offer one of the fastest repair times on the market.
“This project is a clear demonstration of how LED technology can empower education, creativity, and innovation,” said Silvia C. Natal, International Sales Manager at Alfalite. “We’re proud that our Modularpix Pro LED panels were selected for such a visionary initiative, which brings virtual production within the reach of students and professionals alike.”
Sacha Virgilio, General Manager of BDS, added: “We are thrilled to have contributed to such a forward-looking project in collaboration with Alfalite. The ITS Apulia Foundation’s studio combines the best in XR technology, and the Modularpix Pro panels offer outstanding performance in terms of image quality, reliability, and flexibility. This installation is a major milestone for the virtual production ecosystem in Italy.”
The VP XR studio is part of a broader €8 million investment by the ITS Apulia Foundation in digital infrastructure, including AI clusters and cybersecurity labs. With a training model aligned to industry needs, the foundation reports an employment rate of nearly 87% and continues to support workforce development in the media and ICT sectors.
“We believe this kind of studio, powered by robust and reliable LED technology, will set a new benchmark for vocational training and virtual content creation in Europe,” added Natal. “It’s an honor for Alfalite to be contributing to such a meaningful transformation.”
The studio is now fully operational and will support film, TV, advertising, animation, and immersive content production, while helping build new skills and professional opportunities across the region.
