Frankfurt Airport is set to upgrade its security checkpoints with 100 new scanners supplied by technology partner Rohde & Schwarz over the next three years. The deployment will include existing screening lanes and newly planned checkpoints to improve the efficiency of passenger processing.
Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, selected Rohde & Schwarz based on the strong performance of their screening technology. The partnership aims to optimize security processes while minimizing disruptions for passengers. The new scanners will help streamline checkpoint operations, aligning with Fraport’s ongoing efforts to modernize its facilities.
The new contract follows Fraport’s recent responsibility shift in managing aviation security checkpoints, a role it took over from the German Federal Police in 2023. This includes overseeing checkpoint operations and procuring advanced security equipment.
Andreas Hägele, the head of Microwave Imaging at Rohde & Schwarz, comments: “We’re proud to be part of this new model at Germany’s biggest airport and to have gained Fraport’s trust. This is the continuation of a long-term strategic partnership that is beneficial for both sides.”
Sascha König, Senior Vice President Aviation Passenger Process at Fraport AG, explains the investment: “We’re pleased to be installing modern passenger scanners from Rohde & Schwarz at the security checkpoints over the coming months. We’re continuing to work with our partners to roll out our modernization program for passenger checkpoints at Germany’s biggest aviation hub. By using state-of-the-art technology, we’re providing our customers and passengers with faster and more convenient security checkpoints, while maintaining the same high security standards.”
Rohde & Schwarz, active in the global aviation sector since 2015, provides technology solutions that meet international security regulations, including certifications from the European Civil Aviation Conference and the US Transportation Security Administration.
