Historic Museum Balances Remembrance with Modern Functionality

The Museum of Cursed Soldiers and Political Prisoners of the Polish People’s Republic is a remembrance site in Warsaw, Poland, that honors World War II veterans who were tortured and killed by the communist regime. Preserving the authenticity of the historic building while meeting modern functional needs was a key priority for the museum’s architects.

One of the museum’s standout projects was transforming a historic space into a multi-functional room designed for movie screenings, videoconferences, and audio recordings. Balancing these requirements with the aesthetic and historical integrity of the site posed significant challenges, including concealing modern technology and creating an intuitive system for staff with limited technical expertise.

To achieve this, the museum partnered with integrator Polixel, which selected Extron’s audio-visual solutions for their reliability and ease of use. Extron’s sound processor, amplifier, and wall-mounted speakers provided exceptional audio performance, overcoming the room’s acoustic challenges. The control system, configured using Extron’s Global Configurator Professional software, was tailored to the museum’s needs. With a user-friendly interface designed via Extron’s GUI Designer software, staff can now manage the technology through a touchpanel with ease.

“Thanks to the excellent Extron audio system, consisting of a sound processor, amplifier, and wall-mounted speakers, we were able to achieve fantastic sound in an acoustically challenging room,” says Leszek Łozicki, Department Manager at Polixel Multimedia Systems. “Additionally, Extron’s Global Configurator Professional software enabled us to configure the system to our client’s needs. Then, using the Extron GUI Designer software, we were able to create an intuitive interface on the TLP Pro 525T touchpanel that allowed the end users to easily manage the many devices in the room.”

This collaboration demonstrates how advanced AV technology can integrate seamlessly into historic spaces. With Extron’s innovative solutions and Polixel’s expert design, the Museum of Cursed Soldiers now features a versatile, state-of-the-art room that respects its heritage while meeting modern demands.
