One of 13 United Methodist theological schools in the United States, Iliff School of Theology formally opened in 1892 in Denver, Colorado. The school provides an intercultural community where students can experience a supportive, challenging, progressive, and enriching environment, which has yielded over 2,100 graduates who serve in a variety of roles worldwide.

While undergoing organizational changes, Iliff School of Theology began exploring other areas of improvement, including adding flexible and future-proof solutions on the campus that would be essential for continuity. As faculty and students required tools that supported remote collaboration, Iliff’s leadership identified that their outdated AV system could not meet the demands of hybrid learning and diverse event formats.

Iliff School of Theology partnered with Logic Integration to modernize Shattuck Hall, a historic, multi-purpose auditorium that required a flexible and scalable AV solution. Logic Integration selected Crestron intelligent video solutions to modernize the technology infrastructure, equipping Iliff School of Theology to host both internal and external events.

the technology
The auditorium in Shattuck Hall is a multi-functional space that serves many functions including a classroom, lecture hall, performance venue, and meeting room. Prior to its recent upgrade, the space struggled with poor technology utilization, including unreliable wireless microphones and manual camera setups, which limited its effectiveness for modern events. Today, Shattuck Hall has been completely revitalized and is now used for a wide variety of events, including hybrid meetings, YouTube livestreams, and internal productions. Crestron intelligent video technology has helped enhance the space, making it more versatile and attracting external clients for conferences, thereby transforming an underutilized area into a central hub for events.
The Crestron Automate VX multi-camera switching solution was chosen to elevate the auditorium’s capabilities, featuring six PTZ cameras mounted to overhead beams. This setup, combined with Crestron Flex for Zoom Rooms® video conferencing and Shure beam-forming microphones, enables voice-activated camera switching, crystal-clear audio capture, and one-touch preset control for various room configurations. Users benefit from a broadcast-level experience with minimal operator involvement. The installation supports three distinct seating layouts: table clusters, theater style, and U-shape, each with tailored specific camera angles, audio zones, and presentation settings.
The combination of the Automate VX solution and Crestron Flex has elevated the auditorium’s capabilities, allowing Iliff to host large-scale interactive events with participants joining from around the world. Automate VX enables voice-activated multi-camera switching, naturally capturing both speakers and the audience while giving the AV team flexibility to make manual adjustments when needed. Three camera presets have been created for each layout, allowing quick transitions between event types with automatic optimization of audio and video settings.
The system integrates seamlessly with Iliff’s existing production workflow, simplifying the recording and streaming of high-quality content. Crestron touch screens make it easy for non-technical users to manage complex room setups, while the networked infrastructure ensures scalability for future expansion. The space now delivers a smooth, professional hybrid experience that supports Zoom Rooms video conferencing events and beyond.
