Duke University School of Law recently upgraded the AV systems in three lecture halls and a moot courtroom, enhancing reliability and functionality with Extron’s NAV Pro AV over IP. The updated setup enables content routing to multiple rooms for overflow while offering increased flexibility and scalability compared to the previous point-to-point system.
The upgrade also includes full streaming and production capabilities from a broadcast-quality control room. AV staff can securely access the control system from their office, home, or any location with internet access, providing remote maintenance and support. A familiar touchpanel interface helped make the transition seamless for users.

“We know that Extron has a reputation for smooth installation and reliable operation,” said Miguel Bordo, manager of instructional technologies consulting at Duke University School of Law. “When Kontek Systems recommended NAV Pro AV over IP, we said yes. We are more than happy. I’ve been at Duke Law for 18 years, and I’ve worked with our integrator, Kontek, for that long. This was the smoothest install that I’ve experienced.”
The new AV system design in the lecture halls and courtroom features PTZ cameras, guest laptops, Blu-ray players, and Apple TV devices connected to the AV over IP network via NAV encoders. Projectors and flat panel displays receive content through NAV scaling decoders. The system also integrates with Duke’s Panopto enterprise platform to record and share lecture videos.
A MediaPort 200 scaling bridge connects a conferencing PC running a UC soft codec to the AV over IP network for teleconferencing. Control of AV functions and room lighting is made easy through 12-inch tabletop TouchLink Pro touchpanels and IPCP Pro xi control processors.
Duke Law School has been creating in-house AV media since the 1990s, building a sophisticated infrastructure for production, dissemination, and archiving. This latest upgrade is part of the school’s commitment to maintaining cutting-edge AV technology.
