Alexandria International Airport (AEX) in Louisiana has upgraded its terminal with Nanolumens Nixel Series Flex and Engage Series LED displays, replacing aging LCD monitors with new digital signage for flight information, advertising and passenger announcements. The project was designed to modernize the airport while preserving the terminal’s distinctive architecture.
A 27.6-foot-wide Nixel Series Flex display was installed along the curved wall above the first-floor security area. The convex LED display features a 2.5 mm pixel pitch and follows the building’s existing architecture, replacing traditional television monitors with a continuous display surface. The upgrade also gives the airport greater flexibility to update and change the content shown to travelers.
“It’s brighter, it’s crisper, and it changes your whole mindset walking in,” said Scott Gammel, aviation director for the England Authority, which operates the airport. “Before, you had the same thing on the screen for years because you couldn’t really change it. Now it’s just your imagination that limits what you can put up there.”
The airport also installed Nanolumens Engage Series displays for flight and gate information. A 13.8-foot-wide display near the elevator and ticketing area provides flight details, while four additional displays serve the airport’s jetway gates. These displays feature a 1.8 mm pixel pitch and wide viewing angles to keep information visible as passengers move through the terminal.
The project is part of AEX’s efforts to update its passenger experience without changing the architectural features that define the nearly 20-year-old terminal. Following the installation, the England Authority is planning a second phase with Nanolumens that would turn a second-floor column into an LED display.
