More Than Gunshot Detection: My Response to AVNation’s AtlasIED Special

It’s InfoComm time! And it’s also time for another AVNation videocast response from me!

As you hopefully know by now, rAVe [PUBS] has partnered with AVNation to grow the AV industry. Through this partnership, AV Buyers Club — our publication arm specifically for technical end users, in-house integrators and the like — is working with AVNation to create more content for those important people in AV.

Tim Albright recently hosted a special AVNation podcast with Cameron Javdani and Jon Stembel from AtlasIED. The three talked about ISC West (Tim’s first time there by the way) and AtlasIED’s gunshot detection system, dubbed AIX. The system came about through AtlasIED’s shift from only focusing on emergency response.

“In order to move the needle forward in the industry and actually make a difference on the security side — which is one of our mandates — we had to go to the other side,” said Stembel. “… that’s where some of the tech within the new AIX product line comes into focus.”

Built on the AtlasIED IPX platform, the gunshot detection module is just one pillar of the AIX product line. Other products include Rapid Alert Wearable Badges, system endpoints and infrastructure/accessories.

“The entire product line is based on modularity and growing with the customer,” Stembel said. “What it allows us to do is avoid rip and replace.”

Modularity and scalability are important in institutions like schools, which often don’t have the budget or resources to completely replace security systems every couple of years. But adding pieces and parts of an existing system is much more doable.

I think what stands out to me most in this interview is how much the AtlasIED team cares about their customers and the schools they serve. We need more of that in our industry.

Give the full interview a watch, and you’ll likely agree:
