Extron AV Over IP Supports Culinary Training at Oakland Community College

Oakland Community College has deployed Extron AV over IP technology at its new Culinary Studies Institute to support connected learning across classrooms, teaching kitchens and public spaces.

The three-story facility on the college’s Royal Oak campus uses Extron NAV Pro AV over IP distribution and switching as the foundation of its audiovisual system. More than 100 endpoints connect sources and displays throughout teaching kitchens, lecture spaces, demonstration classrooms and public areas.

The system is designed to support live instruction and content sharing across the building. Demonstration classrooms and kitchens are equipped for live streaming, allowing lessons to be shared, recorded and archived.

“All of our spaces are connected,” says Cindy Carbone, Dean of Communication, Arts and Humanities at Oakland Community College. “Which brings effective teaching and learning together.”

In teaching kitchens, overhead cameras and instructor laptops feed content into the AV over IP network, which is distributed to displays and projection systems throughout the facility.

The system also supports audio across busy environments. Wireless microphones and ceiling speaker systems are used to help ensure instructors can be heard clearly during demonstrations.

AV infrastructure extends to public-facing spaces, including meeting areas and the college’s teaching restaurant, where displays are used for presentations and digital content.
