HID announced enhancements to its FARGO DTC line of ID card printers, including the DTC1250e, DTC4500e and DTC1500. The updates are aimed at organizations such as schools, healthcare systems, government offices and corporate campuses that issue employee, student and other identification cards.
The updated printers feature newer hardware and electronics platforms designed to increase printing speed, along with support for high-capacity ribbons to reduce the frequency of ribbon changes. HID also upgraded print quality with 300 x 600 dpi resolution, an enhanced color profile and adjustable K-panel printing for text, logos and other card elements.
Security updates include AES-256-GCM encryption and resin scramble data protection across the DTC printer line. The DTC1500 and DTC4500e also include a customizable watermark overlay for adding another security element to printed credentials.
HID added tools intended to make the printers easier for organizations to operate and maintain. An integrated diagnostic utility and Color Assist tool are built into the printer driver to help identify and resolve common issues. The DTC1250e can also be equipped with an optional OLED SmartScreen, while the DTC1500 and DTC4500e support FARGO Connect, HID’s cloud-based card printing platform that provides real-time visibility into printer fleets.
Organizations can add dual-sided printing and encoding capabilities in the field as their credentialing requirements change, rather than replacing the base printer. The enhanced DTC1250e and DTC4500e are expected to become available in late October or early November depending on region, with the enhanced DTC1500 following later in the fourth quarter of 2026.
