Anthony James Partners (AJP) is serving as technology consultant for a major AV modernization project at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan Stadium, with new LED displays and a redesigned stadium-wide audio system scheduled to be operational for the 2026 football season. AJP provided technology planning, system design, procurement support and construction administration for the project, working with university stakeholders, architects, engineers and technology vendors.
The stadium’s new visual system includes two end-zone LED videoboards measuring approximately 31.5 feet by 106.5 feet, along with nine ribbon displays installed throughout the seating bowl. Together, the displays provide more than 10,000 square feet of digital display space and more than 14.7 million LEDs for live video, game statistics, sponsorship messaging and other game-day content. According to AJP, the new system is designed to give UNC Athletics greater flexibility for presentations while creating additional sponsorship opportunities.
Kenan Stadium is also receiving a redesigned audio system featuring a hybrid architecture that combines distributed loudspeaker systems with a scoreboard-mounted point-source system using Fulcrum Acoustics loudspeakers. The design also incorporates steerable line source technology, Powersoft Unica cloud-based amplifiers and a QSC DSP platform to provide centralized control and consistent audio coverage throughout the venue.
The upgraded sound system is designed to improve speech intelligibility while supporting the high-output audio needed for NCAA Division I football games. AJP said the new infrastructure will support public address announcements, game presentation and other venue operations while delivering more consistent sound quality throughout the stadium.
