Panopto Adds AI Tools to Help Users Find and Learn From Video Content

Panopto introduced three new capabilities designed to help users find information within recorded video, create study materials from existing content and access Panopto knowledge through external AI tools. The additions include Panopto Folio, AI Search and MCP Server.

Panopto Folio turns existing lectures, training videos and other Panopto content into study materials. Users can generate study guides, flashcards and practice quizzes or interact with an AI tutor grounded in the material. Panopto says the feature is intended to help students review course material and employees reinforce training or prepare for certifications.

AI Search allows users to ask conversational questions across their Panopto library. The tool generates an answer and provides links to the source video clip and timestamp, allowing users to locate the portion of a recording where the information originated.

Panopto’s MCP Server connects approved AI tools, including ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft 365 Copilot, to knowledge stored in Panopto. According to the company, existing Panopto permissions and administrative controls carry over, access is read-only and organizational content is not used to train external AI models.

“For two decades, Panopto has helped institutions capture great teaching, training, and expertise and make it available to more people,” said Stephen Laster, CEO of Panopto. “What changes now is how much more people can do with that knowledge. They can find the answer they need immediately, learn from it, and put it to use.”
